2025-2026 New Special Education Administrator Academy
Cohort #1 is designed for special education administrators and coordinators in their 1st year of administration. Cohort #2 is designed for those in their 2nd or 3rd year.
The Academy is open to special education administrators and individuals serving in administrative or similar roles, such as special education coordinators, strategists, etc. Special education administrators with more than 3 years of experience who are new to Maine are also welcome.
Both cohorts will offer on-site and virtual sessions throughout the school year with panelists, guest speakers, Q&As, and scheduled collegial networking all focusing on priority special education topics and pertinent information designed specifically for each cohort.
This year's academy will bring cohort 1 & 2 participants together for networking sessions, as well as breakout groups designed specifically for each cohort and for the different roles represented - directors vs. coordinators.

- State reports, local entitlement, audit/compliance, transition of early special education (Part B 619) from CDS to SAUs

- Leading vs managing
- Preparing for 2026-2027: budgeting, CDS transition meetings, SOPs, staff recruitment & retention, hiring, staff placements
- Special education law
- Complex scenarios

Registration and Cancellation policy: Must be registered to attend. Cancellations must be received by the MADSEC office via email at [email protected] no later than 3:00pm EST on September 1, 2025. No refunds will be processed after this date and time. Should the registrant be unable to attend, MADSEC accepts and encourages an eligible alternate to attend in place of the registrant - the MADSEC office must be informed and provided with the applicable information via email at least 24 hours prior to the start of the event.
