Taryn Lynn Grierson is the 2007 recipient of the $700.00 Lou Fontana Scholarship Award. David Stockford of the Department of Education announced the recipient at the Annual Awards Dinner of the Maine Administrators of Services for the Children With Disabilities (MADSEC). MADSEC is the association of special education administrators in Maine’s local public schools, private special education schools, and Child Development Services (preschool) sites.
Taryn has been enrolled full time at the University of Maine at Augusta since September 2005. She has been taking classes online and through the Thomaston site and has a GPA of 3.4 and 37 credits so far. Taryn is studying special education and would love to teach students with severe disabilities. She has a brother with autism, so this is an area that she has wanted to study and learn more about.
After volunteering in different classrooms she has chosen to pursue a degree in special education. Taryn does child care 20 hours a week while attending college full time. Her mother, who is an Educational Technician, is her role model. Taryn will receive a check for $700.00 and a special memento. MADSEC wishes her the best of luck in her college pursuit.
