The Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities (MADSEC) recognized Katie Carter as the Special Education Paraprofessional of the year. MADSEC is the association of Special Education Administrators in Maine's local public schools, private special education schools, and Child Development Services (preschool) sites.
Carrie Thurston, Special Education Administrator of M.S.A.D. #3, introduced Katie and presented her with the award at the MADSEC Awards Dinner held at the Atlantic Oakes By-The-Sea in Bar Harbor, June 25.
Katie Carter is a native of Brooks, Maine. She works as a paraprofessional for M.S.A.D. #3 in the Life Skills Program at Mt. View Jr. High School. Her assistance with fund raising helped M.S.A.D. #3 for the first time send a team of Special Olympians to the summer games. She has grown professionally by attending classes and this spring she will graduate with an Associate Degree in Education/SPLA from Kennebec Valley Community College. Her dedication to the students is evident by her willingness to assist in all aspects of their education. Her contributions to the class are instrumental to the success of the students. Her professionalism, sense of humor, and obvious love for the students she teachers make her a deserving recipient of this distinguished award.
