The Lou Fontana Scholarship Fund is maintained through the cooperative efforts of the Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities (MADSEC), the Department of Education, and the University of Maine as a tribute to Lou Fontana and to his many contributions to children with disabilities throughout Maine.

Deadlines
Applications must be received by March 5, 2010 to be considered for the support of academic pursuits during the 2010-2011 school year.
Who Should Apply
Undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Maine system who are matriculating toward a degree in Special Education, preferably in the area of Severe Disabilities, but anyone pursuing a degree in Special Education will be considered. Preference may be given to applicants following a non-traditional path to the profession.
Applications
Applications must include four (4) copies of each of the following:
- A profile of the applicant's background (100-150 words) which can serve as the basis of a press release

Up-to-date copies of transcripts

A completed resume and/or vitae

A written "Statement of Commitment" to working with students with disabilities

A cover letter that states how this scholarship will assist the student in completing studies in Special Education
